“Bolero” was written by Moris Ravel commissioned by Ida Rubinstein for her just organized ballet troupe and was performed simultaneously with his “La valse” in the premiere night on November 22, 1928. Choreography and idea of the production belong to the first woman-ballet master Bronislava Nizhinskaya, and decorations to Aleksandr Benua. The stage looked like one of the cheap taverns of Barcelona, where a woman danced on a huge table (Ida Rubinstein), and around her crowded men, seized with passion.
“Tamar”
Music – Mily Balakirev
Choreography - Yurius Smoriginas
Original choreography by Michel Fokine from 1912 was lost.

From old-times there is the Russian legend about the story of the cruel Tamar that lived in the 12 century in the solitary castle in the mountains of Georgia, washed by the stormy waters of the river Terek. They say that Tamar had the face of the angel and the heart of the demon. Tamar, upon the pretext of hospitality enticed to her castle the travelers that went by the desert way. Having charmed the unhappy by her evil beauty, she killed them, and the bodies were thrown from the rock.
