Pandzhavidze Mikhail Aleksandrovich

Chief Director

He was born in 1969. Graduated from the department of the musical theatre “Director” by specialty (workshops of W.A. Miller and M. A. Osherovsky) and from the graduating school (scientific adviser – Professor, People’s Artist of the USSR G.P. Anisimov) of the Russian University of Theatre Arts (GITIS). Since 2001 – the head of the group of directors of the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia.
He has been the director of more than 20 performances in opera and ballet theatres of Tatarstan, Novosibirsk, Magnitogorsk, Yekaterinburg, in the Astrakhan State Music Theatre, the Moroccan National Theatre, among which there are: Boris Godunov by M. Mussorgsky, Snegurochka and The Tsar’s Bride by N. Rimsky-Korsakov, Eugene Onegin and Iolanta by P. Tchaikovsky, Theatre Director by W.A. Mozart, Rigoletto, Nabucco and Aida by G. Verdi, Madama Butterfly and Tosca by G. Puccini, Pagliacci by R. Leoncavallo etc.
He has worked with conductors like E. Svetlanov, G. Rozhdestvenskiy, M. Ermler, V. Gergiev, V. Andropov, directors B. Prolorovsky, M. Osherovsky, R. Sturua, G. Ansimov, I. Sharoev, A. Titel. He participated in the International Vocal Festival named after V. Barsova and M. Maksakova (Astrakhan), the Moscow Easter Festival, the International Festival after F. Chaliapin (Kazan). He has been the author of a number of theme and anniversary concert programmes.
Since 2006 till 2008 – the artistic head of the State Theatre “Tsaritsynskaya opera”.
He was honoured with the State Prize of the Republic of Tatarstan after G. Tukai for the production of “Poet’s Love” (2008). This performance has also became the winner of the theatre award “Golden Mask” in the nomination “Best Male Role” (2008).

From May 2010 – Chief Director of the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theatre of the Republic of Belarus.

On stage of the Bolshoi Belarussian Theatre he has staged several operas Nabucco (2010), Tosca (2010), Aida (2011), The Barber of Seville (2011).
